Iran's Supreme Court overturns death sentence for Zanjani

TEHRAN, Nov. 26 (MNA) – An informed source in Iran's Supreme Court on the latest proceedings on Babak Zanjani's case, said the court has overturned the death sentence for the oil billionaire.

Zanjani was jailed in 2013 when charges were brought up against him for misappropriating two billion euros belonging to the Ministry of Petroleum.

Babak Zanjani and two others, Mehdi Shams and Hamid Fallah Heravi, convicted of embezzling billions of dollars from the national oil company, fraud and economic crimes, were sentenced to death in March 2016.

Death ruling was notified in March; the defendant appealed against the ruling and the case went to the Supreme Court in June which overturned it in November.
